Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks appear.
- Gently fold the dry mixture into the egg whites in three additions, then add the vanilla extract and food coloring if desired.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small, even rounds onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Let the piped macarons sit for 30-60 minutes until they form a skin that is no longer sticky to touch.
Baking
- Bake for 15-20 minutes. Avoid opening the oven door during baking.
Assembly
- Once cool, pair the macaron shells and fill them with buttercream frosting. Finish with colorful sprinkles.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze them for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
