Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour High-quality flour is recommended.
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter Opt for European-style butter for better flavor.
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast About 2 1/4 tsp.
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar (or honey) Can be substituted with honey.
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 each egg, beaten For egg wash before baking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the yeast mixture: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and combine until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Shape the butter: Place cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper, flattening it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Chill in the refrigerator until firm.
  4. Encapsulate the butter: Roll out the dough into a larger rectangle than the butter block, position the butter in the center and fold the dough over, sealing the edges well.
  5. Repeat the process: Roll out the dough and fold it two more times, chilling in between each fold.
  6. Cut and shape: Roll out the laminated dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into triangles and roll each from the base to the tip.
  7. Let them rise: Cover the croissants and let them rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  8. Bake to perfection: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), brush the croissants with beaten egg, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow croissants to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Store leftover croissants in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or 1 week in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze them for up to a month. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes.
