  • 800 g Potatoes Waxey potatoes are preferred.
  • 500 ml Milk Can use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 150 g Gruyère cheese Use high-quality for best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic Crushed for rubbing the baking dish.
  • 30 g butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • Salt To taste.
  • Black pepper To taste.
  • Pinch of nutmeg To add depth of flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Rub the baking dish with crushed garlic cloves and butter the inside.
  3. Layer sliced potatoes in the baking dish, seasoning each layer with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour milk over the layered potatoes until just covered and top with shredded Gruyère cheese.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until bubbling and golden brown.

Notes

For the best results, ensure even seasoning in each layer of potatoes. Serve it with a fresh salad or alongside roasted chicken. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
