- Whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a shallow bowl until smooth and slightly foamy.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter, letting it melt fully to coat the pan.
Cooking
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture. Let it soak for about 10 to 15 seconds per side for dry bread, or a quick dip for softer bread.
- Lay the soaked bread in the pan and cook until golden brown, about 2 to 4 minutes per side.
- Serve immediately while the outside is crisp and the inside is warm and custardy.
Notes
Best served fresh. Can be stored in the fridge for 2 days or frozen for up to 1 month. Reheat in an oven or toaster oven for crisp edges.
